Having an Unexpected Fun Time in Texas

Ryan came home with some unexpected news from his commanders on base that he needed to go to a training in Charleston, SC that Sunday (two days from then). He was to be gone for two weeks, which just so happened to be our wedding anniversary and Valentine's Day. There was no way I was going to just hang around here for two weeks, so Skylee and I headed to Jennette's house in Dallas, TX. Our Valentine's this year were Ethan, Elenna, and Eliese! My mom had already planned on going out that way, so we got to spend a few days with Nana too. Skylee absolutelty loved being there with her cousins, more girly things to play with, all new books she hadn't already flipped through a million times, and constant entertainment by the Paul crew! Now that we're back home, I can tell she misses all those girls!

Our unusual Valentine's Day

Normally for Valentine's Day when you have a "special someone" like a husband...you would get to spend time and do something a little extra to show your love and appreciation for that person and vice versa. Not this year, or last year in the Allen home. Last year when we were living in Oregon, he had to work both our wedding anniversary and Valentine's day, lucky me...it just so happened again this year. We've only been married for two years here! As much as I loved being with Jennette's family in Texas, I couldn't help but miss my Valentine and husband of now two years. Don't worry about me though, he doesn't get out of these things that easily around here, the conditions of him leaving were that he would make both occassions up to me, as it seems to be more important to me in the first place. :) Our Valentines Day was a fun day at the park and as many treats as you could eat! Thanks Jennette and Steve for letting us crash your Valentines Day!

Breakfast in Bed

Sneaky Little Thing!

I thought this was just one of those funny moments of a parent's life... Usually when Skylee wakes up in the morning I bring her in bed with me for a little bit until we've decided it's time to be productive. This particular morning, I had put her in bed with me but almost immediately got up to get something out of bed, leaving her in there for a split second. I guess turning my back away from her was just enough time for her to spot the cookie that was left on our night-stand from the night before, so she helped herself with getting her own breakfast. She was real quiet, but I could hear some wrestling, so I knew something was up. As I turned around I couldn't help but laugh and grab the camera at such a classic moment! I made my best attempt to give her a banana after that, but it was rejected.

A Fun Weekend

Ryan had the weekend off from work so we decided to make plans to go see some sights around here. We had made reservations to take a ferry out to Cumberland Island, a local national park. The ferry was to take off from downtown Saint Mary's where there just so happened to be a Mardi Gras festival going on. As we walked down the street, we were just too tempted at all the fun that we figured since this event was just once a year, and we could go to Cumberland Island anytime, that we would stay and enjoy the festivities. There were all kinds of fun "southern foods" to try and great booths to check out. There was somthing fun for everyone, and it was a perfect day outside here! The day before we went down to the little harbor where the ferry was scheduled to set sail, to have an idea of where to go and to make our reservation. We stopped in a little ice-cream shop and the cashier asked us if we were going to come for Mardi Gras, we just laughed because all that came to mind was a crazy party that we weren't so into. Once we showed up that morning we could see it was very different from the real Mardi Gras festivities of New Orleans, thank goodness! We are still looking forward to a weekend spent at Cumberland Island here in the near future!
